Isis originated as an Egyptian goddess of love, magic, and protection. Initially known as Aset, or "Goddess of the Throne," during the Old Kingdom (c. 2686–2181 BCE), she resurrected her brother and lover Osiris after his death and gave birth to Horus, the falcon-headed God of Kingship. Throughout history, Isis became revered for aiding the dead in entering the afterlife and was invoked in healing rituals. In the New Kingdom (c. 1550–1070 BCE), she assimilated attributes of other goddesses like Hathor, reflected in her horned sun disk crown.
